Glossophobia – The Fear of Public Speaking!

Over 80% of adults in this country have Glossophobia, this fear of public speaking, with many of them fearing that over death and it controls their life and holds them back from becoming all that they can be.

Fear exists either in real terms, or in our own mind where we are frightened by thoughts of the unknown. Both types of fear can cause the “Fight or Flight” syndrome, where we will either stand our ground, run like the wind, or freeze on the spot.

With real fear, such as an encounter with an angry dog, there will be a rush of adrenaline and, you would try, and hopefully be able to run away.

A similar thing happens when you experience irrational fear. If in you have fear of speaking in front of others you will most likely experience that same encounter of anxiety taking over your body the next time you are scheduled to talk to a stranger, or make a stage presentation.

When that happens, you will act in one of the following two ways:

A) You do what most people who have experienced speech anxiety do: Panic!

Instead of making the dreaded speech, you decide to give in to “avoidance” and go out of your way to see to it that you never have to talk to more than one person at a time ever again, and even that will be difficult.

B) Or you will make your way to the stage with your fear in tow and in full flow.

You know the feeling: your mouth is dry, your mind freezes, you feel dizzy, your heart is pounding, your palms are sweating,; the sounds are all around you; you want to run, your self critic’s voice is screaming at you to leave the building before you make a fool of yourself.

Physically drained you feel like you are now being confronted by that angry growling dog again who is now showing his teeth. And you have nowhere to run. The show must go on.

This is it! It is time for change!
