YPS Professional member awarded MBE in New Year’s Honours

YPS is delighted to announce that one of its professional membersDr Amir Hannan has been recognized in HM Queen’s New Year Honours list and has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). The list features people who have been going above and beyond to support their communities through the pandemic.

Dr Hannan is a full time General Practitioner at the Haughton Thornley Medical Centre in Greater Manchester (UK). Dr Hannan, who took on the challenge of joining Harold Shipman’s old practice 20 years ago and set about restoring patients’ trust. Since then, he has worked to empower patients by giving them the means to access, and understand, their own medical records. He believes that involving patients in their own health is a vital part of good care, and that ‘patients, carers and information are the most under-utilised resources the NHS has’.

Dr Hannan has been involved with YPS and has given talks, webinars, mentored students and has offered some work experience opportunities to students wishing to study medicine and become future doctors.

He is undoubtably a valuable asset not just to the patients under his care at Haughton Thornley Medical Centre, but also to the wider communities and the youngsters who look up to Dr Hannan as a role model to follow.

YPS would like to congratulate Dr Amir Hannan on the MBE award.
